Week9 Thing 23
Wow, I finally made it through the lessons. I will have to say that I learned so much and was very impressed by the amount of technolgy that is out there for educational purposes. I am a bit shy with it, but I know with practice I will do just fine. One of my favorite experiences was the discover of Zoho under application tools. I know that I will use this tool for sure. I also love youtube video. I have actually used it in the past to find video clips for our Christmas Around the World theme in the Library. The 23 things is a tough class to take but well worth the effort. Many good resources were used and shared. Great information to pass on to collegues.
Week9 Thing 22
eBooks and Audio eBooks are both great. I downloaded an eBook titled WhiteHouse Holiday Book. This book takes you on a tour of the White House Rooms with a story for each room and why it is decorated the way it is. Now Audio books are great. This is a great way to travel and hear a story at the same time. Students can download them to their ipod or mp3 or the latest gadget the own and listen to stories if they don't have time to read them. Audio books can also be used to teach a libray lesson without losing your voice by the end of the week because of reading the same story again and again.

News from Nov. 30 2005 Episode What's New at the Lunar and Planetary Institute Library
I went searching for Podcasts about library information and came upon the above item. This podcast is a good idea to have and incoorporate into powerpoint presentation of all types. I will say that in order for students to work with them, I would not let them do a search on their own because of the adult content that is out there. i would set up a blog for the assignment and add specific links or podcasts that the kids can view and chose to use for a presentation of sorts.

Week 9 Thing 20
Today I spent some time on YouTube.com In my searching I found many videos that can be used for library lessons such as book trailers, or celebrations around the world. These types of videos give students the chance to get a glimpse of movie based on a book and I hope that they will be motivated to read the book or series. As far as celebrations, video is excellent way to show what is happening around the world in places we may never get to visit in our life time.
Dislike- My dislike is that children cannot go to this site unsupervised. There are no restrictions on search content and anything may come up. I saw a Twilight video that was enhanced with voice overs that were ment to be comical but also used bad words.
videos I liked Twilight- www.youtube.com/watch?V=KYBF3HKzrmE
and Sesame Street: Cookie in the Library at www.youtube.com/W3ZHPJT2Kp4.

Week 8, Thing 19
www.librarything.com/home/juliza I posted my five favorite books and found that nantucket Nights has 63 members, Strange Angels has 107, Act like a lady, Think like a man has 131, My sisters keeper has 8, 356, and The Time Travelers Wife has 16, 886 members. The site offers reviews, popularity rating, five star rating chart, and other book reccomendations from library thing as well as from its members. My books vary greatly in popularity and I did find many discussions about The Time Travelers Wife. I liked the member reccomendation section. This will help me in my search for the next book to read.
Week 8 Thing 18
Zoho is a great work processing tool. I wish I had this when I was in grad school. Zoho allows you to work on a document or research paper online or offline. You do not need to save your doc at home and then e-mail it to yourself at work or save if to a pen drive. Its as easy as starting a word doc, and saving it. later you can open in at work, home , school and continue. Another great feature is that you can also have a group working and editing the same doc and view the changes instantly. I just love it and will continue to use it now that i have my own account. The slide show feature is also a great tool. You can also type in over 75 different languages. This is great for libraries that cover places around the world and want to show kids what other languages look like or what our daily phrases of good morning and hello look like in another language.
