Week 6 Thing 15

Web 2.0 Where will it take libraries? Into a New world of librarianship by Michael Stephens, Librarian Blogger writes about way librarians can engage in web 2.0 in the library. Some of his examples include web 2.0 tools such as read/write web, instant messaging, weblogs, and wikis as resources to further the library mission. Librarians always keep the mission and goals in check when making technology purchases. I like the idea of using web 2.0 in the libray and how he sticks to a plan of including staff and users in the decision making process. Many savy technolgy persons often make purchases without knowing how it will work with the public or less savy users.

Web 2.0 means to me- it allows for communication with the use of technology. It allows for instant results with a vary in degree. It allows for an opportunity to travel without leaving your home or school.

Web 2.0 means to the library- it allows students to gain access and communicate with things and others that would otherwise not be possible. It allows students to express talents in technology that would otherwise stay hidden. It allows for growth.
